Artists & Title: Nail – Esperance’ EP Label: Hold Youth Catalogue#:HY011 Date: 2014 Format: 12″ Vinyl Country: Paris
Riding on the back of a surge of interest in De La Club, the debut LP from Hold Youth, comes a smartly picked repress of House don Nail.
While the duo is known for their eclectic vision of dance music, the first repress on the label I’ve Been There EP is in fact an exemplary example of straight-up, no-fuss House. Enjoying a modest comeback of late both as a producer and DJ, Nail originally released Full of Beestone Promise EP on DIY Discs in ’97. The stronger two of the four tracks will be repressed one on each side, ‘Our Love’ and ‘I’ve Been There’, distinctive for its melodic vocal and recent inclusion in the Apollonia fabric 70 compilation.
While we have become accustomed to Hold Youth’s diversification of sounds with the current LP, I’ve Been There reminds us that a pigeon-holable classic can be highly refreshing.

Artists & Title: Monsieur Georget – Jour de Fête EP Label: Hold Youth Catalogue#:HY009 Date: 2013 Format: 12″ Vinyl Country: Paris
A 4-track package traversing house and techno. First up Jour de Fete, a reference to the black and white 1940’s French comedy – perhaps a clue to Mr Georget… One thing’s for sure this is toe-tapping house. Taking its time to perfectly build up the progression towards smooth outbursts of wailing sirens. 6eme etape is another fine example of get-up-and-dance house, there’s plenty of driving drum kick and jazzy key chords, nicely pulled back and interrupted, to drop back in again with a renewed energy.
Poil de renard on the other hand immediately marks out its territory among the German minimal and micro house space. Strong, syncopated beats laced with chopped up whispers and unknown reverberations, this is tough! The 103 mix softens up the edges, a subtle underlying synth providing the mellowness – essentially your morning-after dub version.
Artists & Title: Jordan Fields – Ana’s Dream EP Label: Hold Youth Catalogue#:HY008 Date: 2013 Format: 12″ Vinyl Country: Paris
The prolific 90’s house producer, carving out a sound somewhere between disco and Chicago, Jordan Fields is the latest pioneering artist to press on the ever-accelerating Parisian label, Hold Youth.Esteemed for productions on the legendary Headphoniq, Track Mode, Aroma, and Brothers’ Vibe’s SOM Recordings, Fields marked a new epoch with ‘Boxbeater’ EP released on Rush Hour last year. Back for more ‘Ana’s Dream’ is a well varied 4-track package, travelling through solid disco-house, to the outright unclassifiable, to the more floaty and serene. Vinyl experts Le Loup and Seuil AKA Hold Youth, approached Fields initially for a repress of a forgotten gem ‘Garage Daze Revisited’. Embracing nostalgia for their musical roots but all the while conscious of pushing things forward, their modern touch comes in the form of a new extended edit Fields made at their special request.Title track ‘Ana’s Dream’ equally brings out the best of the old to create an outstanding new. A previously unreleased production from a young and experimental Jordan Fields, its dirty, raw sound is down to the exclusive edit being made from the original cassette tape.To top off each side of the vinyl, two brand new tracks commissioned for the label — the uplifting and catchy vocals on ‘What Your Mind Can Conceive’ makes it the perfect summer warmer, while ‘Blue Pacific’ transports you somewhere deep and murky for an altogether more psychedelic experience.
