Capelli spettinati, un po’ di barbetta e un’infinita passione per la musica. Così lo si può descrivere il maestro Ricardo Villalobos, un’artista che sin da bambino ha amato la musica in tutte le sue sfumature, chi lo ha ascoltato sa bene quanto sia capace di emozionare attraverso i suoi set. Da ormai dieci anni Ricardo è protagonista indiscusso della club culture, da Berlino a Tokyo passando per il sud America chiunque lo conosce e lo ha visto protagonista delle migliori consolle, siano esse in riva al mare al sorgere del sole o in una vecchia centrale elettrica dismessa. Il viaggio introspettivo ed animato è con lui assicurato allo Zu::Shaman.

La Romania, la terra del conte Dracula, ha sfornato nel corso degli ultimi anni diversi talenti nel campo della musica elettronica, Radu Bogdan Cilinca in arte Rhadoo è sicuramente uno di questi. Questo artista è la mente della label “a:rpia:r” fondata insieme ai suoi amici Raresh e Petre Inspirescu, groove profondi ed elementi micro i suoi ingredienti di qualità, insieme a Ricardo darà vita ad una giornata di musica infinita.
Giammarco Orsini (Zu::Bar / Earlydub rec)
Avere a venticinque anni già dieci anni di esperienza alle spalle come dj non è cosa da tutti, un ragazzo umile e con una grandissima passione per la musica. Il giovane Giammarco è sin dall’inizio parte del progetto Zu::bar, l’essere resident in una realtà come questa ha esalto appieno la sua capacità portandolo a dividere la consolle con alcuni tra i nomi più importanti del clubbing internazionale. A gennaio di quest’anno è uscito il suo primo EP su Earlydub records, questa release conferma il suo talento, insieme a Ricardo e Rhadoo renderà questo Zu::Shaman unico ed indimenticabile.

L’ottava edizione di “ZU::SHAMAN” si terrà a Montesilvano (PE), il 21 Aprile nella duplice cornice del Palacongressi d’Abruzzo e dello Zu::Bar. Il termine Shamanesimo si riferisce ad una vasta gamma di credenze e pratiche tradizionali che comprende la capacità di diagnosticare e curare malattie del singolo individuo e della comunità. Queste attitudini derivano dall’asserita capacità dello shamano di “viaggiare” in stato di trance nel mondo degli spiriti e utilizzare i loro poteri a scopo benefico. Anche quest’anno è lui il fulcro del Festival , shamanesimo come risposta alla realtà in cui viviamo, fatta di industrie ed economia che tentano di piegare l’anima e la forza vitale che ciascuno di noi possiede. Per lo sciamano non ci sono prove intellettuali o di fede: egli si limita a sperimentare per conoscere e la sua arma è la fonte di energia interiore che deve essere evocata per potersi risvegliare, la sua verità è quella che si acquista a mezzo dell’esperienza personale. Come ogni anno ZU::SHAMAN da vita a manifestazioni di respiro internazionale , protagonisti indiscussi di questa edizione sono i “guaritori” e saggi Ricardo Villalobos e Rhadoo affiancati dal giovane talentuoso che risponde al nome di Giammarco Orsini.
Il 2014 è appena iniziato e già ci siamo organizzati per combattere il cinismo dilagante, fieri di combattere per affermare la nostra natura e il nostro modo di guardare alla realtà. Questo primo ZU::SHAMAN del 2014 porterà qualcosa di sensazionale, senza precedenti e quando da shamano la musica entra in te parla alla tua anima e ciò che dice è un sogno inviolabile, sacro. Desideriamo essere insieme perché non vogliamo immaginare un futuro in cui la cultura sia un ricordo del passato, e come affermava il padre della nostra filosofia John Cage: “Non è necessario rinunciare al passato per entrare nel futuro.Quando si cambiano le cose non è necessario perderle.”

In October 2013, Neneh Cherry made an exciting announcement. She was coming back with her first album of solo music in 18 years. A collaboration with RocketNumberNine produced by Kieran Hebden and featuring a guest appearance by Robyn – Neneh shared the eponymous track ‘Blank Project’ in December 2013. To start the New Year, Neneh has revealed a completely new original track ‘Everything’ as well as a remix of the track by the iconic techno producer/DJ Ricardo Villalobos and Max Loderbauer. For Neneh fans eager to hear the new material live, she also announces an intimate European tour for February and March, including club dates at London’s Concrete and Berlin’s Berghain.

Portland was produced by our good friend Dave Clark aka Sparky and was the first record we released in 2002, about a year before the first ever Numbers party took place.
Originally recorded live to tape using an MMT8, a Microwave II, and an ESi32 in the summer of 1998, it was released on an old label of ours named Stuffrecords and formed part of a somewhat rambling compilation called STUFF001. We hastily stuck this record out without any proper distribution, because at the time we didn’t know any better. Despite this, the record did pretty well, selling 500 copies to a few select stores who had faith in what we were doing.
Fast forward a year or so to when Numbers kicked off and the track became one of the first bonafide anthems in the club. It was our tune and it would tear the roof off at any of our parties.
A couple of years later, we booked DJ Pete, aka ‘Substance’ to play. We’re talking about the record in the pub when he suddenly informs us that Ricardo Villalobos is crazy about it and even charted it. This was a deep, almost Drexciyan electro track and here was the king of crazy experimental minimal house music caning it in his DJ sets.
Not long after that night, the Numbers label was up and running and the idea to re-release Portland with a remix from Mr Villalobos was brought up almost as a kind of pipe-dream. Now in 2013, with a little help from Gerd Janson, it has finally happened. Recorded live in one take and clocking in at over 30 minutes long, it’s cited as an “experiment” by Ricardo. Designed to play at two speeds, at 33rpm it’s almost like an early 90s Black Dog track stretched out to infinity, whilst at 45rpm, it’s a club-ready groover with an almost Dopplereffekt rhythm to it – the sort you could imagine sneaking into a DJ Assault or Godfather Ghettotech mix. Somehow, it also manages to be classic Villalobos.
To finish off the record Dave gave us two unheard tracks from those original Portland sessions in 1998. The malevolent electro of ‘Jigsaw’ would instantly have become another Numbers anthem if only Dave had let us hear it ten years ago, and closer track ‘Wilson St’ heads down an ambient route.
About Sparky
Dave’s a bit of a legend. In the early 90s he was a member of Glasgow Techno band State Of Flux who released on JD Twitch’s old label T&B Vinyl. Their first live show was supporting The Black Dog in 1992 at an old Glasgow venue called Industria, and they were also the support at the first ever Jeff Mills show in Glasgow. Later on Dave would release records under the name Truffle Club and regularly collaborated with JD Twitch on remixes under the Optimo (Espacio) banner. Dave and his brother Craig also released an ep under the name ‘Music At Nite’ for former Numbers label Wireblock. Most recently, he’s been working under the name LUMA for Optimo Trax.

Underground favorite and immediately following the release were the rumored whispers of a remix EP coming this fall. Well the time has come to put some truth to the matter and proudly announce the “Royal Dust Remixes EP” Featuring mixes from two of the industries most acclaimed artists: Ricardo Villalobos and the Brandt, Bauer, Frick Ensembles Paul Frick. Ricardo takes the track “Royal” by storm and delivers one his most psychedelic works to date. Using Ben Abarbanel’s other worldly Tenor and Baritone Sax parts and combining them with a sonic Pallet found in other dimensions that only an artist like Villalobos has access to. The Production mastermind behind Brandt, Bauer and Frick Ensemble Paul Frick also steps up with fuel injected broken house remix of “Truco”. Chest hitting kicks and beats with a menacing analog synth presence swirling around the pop and go groove. This guy proves again that he is no stranger to transforming and crafting the occasional dancefloor burner.
