After an astounding year for Apollonia storming all corners of the earth, the three welcomed further success with a momentous fiesta at BPM to commence 2014. Working the label in tandem, the list of pioneers featured thus far – POINT G, Callisto and Kerri Chandler – is mighty impressive. Jovonn is a name that sits naturally alongside them, the difference being that the forthcoming EP on Apollonia is not a repress but juicy new productions.
A highly respected international DJ and producer hailing from Brooklyn, Jovonn made his mark within the underground House scene with classics such as “I Can’t Make Up My Mind”, “Garage Shelter”, and the standout collaboration with DJ Deep “Back In the Dark”. An intrinsic inspiration to the Apollonia trio, a personal relationship first formed at WMC Miami last year. Enjoying a production comeback following music on Dogmatik and La Vie En Rose in 2013, talk of working with Apollonia has fruitfully resulted in “The EP”.
Proving he can still produce a House bomb with ease, “Trippin” is a Jovonn future classic dripping in sexy hushed vocals, with a dub alternative that sticks to the track’s fundamentals. “The March” journeys forward into the deepness of dreamy synths, while the contagious beats lure you into a swinging metronome effect. In the words of Jovonn, “it’s spiritual.”

As Apollonia surpasses it’s 10th release and you take a breath to look back on the first two years of the label’s meteoric life, there’s no denying the unstoppable Parisian-born imprint is going from strength to strength. Having just repressed ‘Need Ur Love’, the Callisto classic that is an influential memory from Apollonia’s roots, Dan Ghenacia brings us up to the present day with the forthcoming EP.

Having spent the summer season in the musical hub of Ibiza, Ghenacia’s heightened creativity lead him to turn his hand once again to production. Finishing the track just in time for Dyed Soundorom’s birthday, his beats brother took the liberty of testing out the track during his annual celebratory marathon set. ‘Ometeo’ featured no less than four times throughout the Ibizian all day/all night proceedings and immediately became a firm favourite of Soundorom. So much so that he insisted on its release on Apollonia, and added a personal remix of his own.

Now spending more and more time in Berlin, home to two-thirds of the trio and to work together on an LP, there’s a definite shift in the sound nodding to something a little darker, a little weirder. ‘Ometeo’ asserts itself with a strong paced clap, accompanied by low pitched electronic rippling and intergalactic robotic voices. Slowly and subtly building up, it moves through human chatterings, insect callings and more, until at its most dynamic moment enter the hip-shaking maracas!

Remix master Soundorom gives the late night joint a total overhaul to produce a peak time dancefloor bomb. Introducing a driving kick to pick up the energy, the warm, deep synths remind us of the typical Apollonia sound, as do the sexy, primarily female vocals which reoccur throughout the piece. Together a two track package that will without a doubt propel the French trio even further into the stratosphere.

The HelloRepeat founder is officially the first new artist to be signed to Apollonia. His release comes on the back of acclaimed EP’s from label founders Shonky and Dan Ghenacia, together with a celebrated re-press of DJ Gregory’s POINT G classic ‘Underwater’. Highly regarded by those in the know, yet still largely unheralded thanks to his preference to stay out of the media limelight, Daze Maxim has carved a reputation among his contemporaries of being a deep thinking musician as much concerned with composition theory and true musical meaning, as rocking a dancefloor. There was no better example of this than ‘Intimacy Girl’, the track he created under the Heartz4 moniker that became a favourite tune in 2008 for countless DJs and synonymous with the house sound of the Cocoon Terrace in Ibiza. For his debut EP on Apollonia, Daze has created a hypnotic house gem driven by deep meaty bass and intricate multi-layered synth notes that pays dues to his masterful reputation when it comes to composition. Heavier on the drums than Daze’s original, Dyed Soundorom delivers a stripped back, tech-friendly re-rub that reinforces his lofty reputation for balancing deep, evocative grooves with hiplashing rhythms to create a cut guaranteed to shake the floor. Rounding out the package is ‘Tableara’, a cut that sees Daze go down a more contemplative minimal route, incorporating shaking percussion, sparse beats and a subtle moody synth line to create a brooding atmosphere that’d put it right at home in a grungy warehouse environment.
